Green Over Grey

According to the Gospel writers, Jesus of Nazareth walked around the Middle Eastern countryside proclaiming one simple message “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” This simple theme of calling people into the present to discover the pearl of great price within themselves, and among their neighbours, was at the heart of Jesus’ message
I write this because the other day while cycling, this simple message captured my attention, and it caused my mind to travel down a certain path. As a landscape designer and craftsman who has worked in the field for many years, I can’t help but wonder the role landscape design could have in healing and restoring our planet, and our soul.
What if we created more green space over grey space?
What if we grew more gardens over pouring more concrete?
What if green over grey called us to a slower, richer and gentler pace of life?
What if green over grey could help rekindle our true essence and vocation?
Green over Grey, maybe not the ancient “the kingdom of heaven is near” refrain, but perhaps still a theme that could help reconcile us with our planet, and our very lives.
Until Next Time
