Concession Four

Concept

After living in her custom home for twenty years, the client wanted to redesign the sidewalk leading to the tenants' entrance behind the garage and her own walkway leading to the main entrance of the house. The goal was to respect existing architecture and natural surroundings.

Design

The old landscape was constructed of curvilinear sidewalks that felt disconnected from the layout of the house. Therefore geometric shapes and liner lines were leveraged with the goal of creating unity between the landscape design and the architecture of the home. As well, an apron of pavers was added in front of the garage so the front walkway was connected with the sidewalk leading to the tenants' entrance. A paver soldier course was also included to bring a feeling of continuity between the sidewalks and the driveway. Working within the parameters of the client's budget and wishes, the design focused solely on the hardscape for this project.

Result

Oaks Nueva Milano was the main paver used throughout the project because of its colour, smooth face and contemporary look. Romex Fugensand, an eco-friendly solid jointing sand solution, was used in the paver joints along with Romex D7000 joint sealer. The chosen hardscape materials are clean, simple and fluid. As well, Carmen and his crew from Park Paving did top- notch work on paving the driveway.
