Bowmanville East

Concept

The clients were looking for two things. First, they wanted to convert the unused space behind their pool into a covered terrace where they could entertain guests and relax while enjoying the outdoors. Second, they wanted the two steps leading to the pool from their back hall and kitchen redesigned and rebuilt.

Design

Rather than steps leading straight out from the back hall toward the pool, we designed the landing and the steps to run parallel with the house. The reason was twofold: to keep the steps from jutting out into the pool terrace, and, to give the clients a solid landing space when going in and out of the house.

The covered terrace was designed for casual seating at one end, and for a table and
chairs for dining at the other end. The east side of the terrace integrated into an existing sidewalk that led to the backyard vegetable garden while the west side was designed with a new sidewalk leading to the detached garage.

Result

Brussels block, the tumbled paver by Unilock, was used for its warmth and relaxed
appearance while Silver Antique Limestone Coping was used to keep the quarried stone look and feel. The covered terrace, built by Ray Anthony and Son’s, gave the clients a space to enjoy the outdoors while being protected from the elements.
